About Us > About ACHIEVA About ACHIEVAFounded out of love for their sons and daughters with mental retardation, a group of family members began a grassroots movement in the early 1950’s that changed the long history of segregation and isolation of children and adults with intellectual disabilities. While the names and faces changed over the next fifty years, ACHIEVA remained steadfast in the vision of the founding families: daring to dream of a society where all people are accepted for their unique abilities and contributions.
ACHIEVA, formerly ARC Allegheny, is the nonprofit parent organization and western Pennsylvania’s largest provider of comprehensive services and supports for people with disabilities and their families. Each year, ACHIEVA serves nearly 7,000 people from pre-birth and throughout an individual’s entire life cycle. ACHIEVA is the only agency of its type in western Pennsylvania that provides these services. From early intervention therapies to in-home support for medically fragile senior citizens, ACHIEVA provides a full spectrum of services for people of all ages and abilities and their families.
ACHIEVA is proud to provide lifelong supports and programs for individuals with disabilities. Our organization continues to be a leader in systemic change. ACHIEVA is highly regarded as a well managed and efficient organization and a number of our programs have been replicated nationally and internationally. We listen to our consumers and their families and explore ways to fund solutions in order to meet their needs.
