Early Childhood > Assessments AssessmentsACHIEVA’s Independent Assessments are conducted for children from birth to age three in Beaver, Butler, Clearfield, Clarion, Jefferson and Fayette counties. For assessments in these areas please contact Dr. Lynda Wright 888-272-7229 ext. 420 or at lwright@achieva.info. Assessments are not conducted by ACHIEVA personnel in Allegheny County where we provide direct services. Children in these areas can be assessed through the Alliance for Infants and Toddlers at 412-885-6000. Their web address is www.afit.org. ACHIEVA can then be of help in providing direct services once your child is assessed.
Assessments are conducted by caring professionals trained in techniques unique to the needs of infants and toddlers. Early childhood special educators, including teachers of the visually and hearing impaired, audiologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists and speech pathologists provide the assessments in inclusive home and community environments.
Hearing evaluations are provided for infants and toddlers enrolled in ACHIEVA’s Early Intervention program. A trained clinician uses a machine that allows the ear to respond automatically to the signal. It is not necessary for the child to make an active response and the test does not hurt. The ear responds automatically to the signal and the machine records needed information. Finding temporary hearing loss due to a middle ear infection is an important first step in getting treatment for your baby. Untreated ear infections in the first two years of life can lead to language delays and speech problems later on.
