ACHIEVA HOME CARE EARNS CHAP ACCREDITATION

ACHIEVA was the first agency surveyed by CHAP program
that specializes in providing supports to people with developmental and intellectual disabilities

Pittsburgh, PA –ACHIEVA’s home care services have received a three-year accreditation by the Community Health Accreditation Program (CHAP), an independent, nonprofit accrediting body for community health organizations.

“CHAP accreditation will allow ACHIEVA to reach more families who are in need of respite care,” explained Rose Warman, director of ACHIEVA’s home care services. “The designation is a way to increase our personal care supports to Early & Periodic Screening and Diagnostic Treatment medical assistance recipients, particularly children from birth through age 21 diagnosed with special healthcare needs.”

“The CHAP accreditation publicly certifies that an organization has voluntarily met the highest standards of excellence for home and/or community-based health care,” according to CHAP officials. In addition, becoming a member of the accredited agencies will give ACHIEVA access to a broad network of professional resources and guidance to building inter- and intra-organizational collaboration and strength.

Today, only 1,450 agencies have reached accredited status nationwide. ACHIEVA is one of 104 state and only 5 local organizations to be endorsed by CHAP, and was the first organization surveyed that is specifically directed to supporting people with developmental disabilities.

ACHIEVA, formerly Arc Allegheny, is the largest nonprofit organization in Western Pennsylvania serving adults and children with disabilities and their families.  Founded in 1951, ACHIEVA supports nearly 7,000 children and adults with disabilities annually through advocacy, community services, education, special needs trust  and family supports.  ACHIEVA is committed to excellence in lifelong care and education for people with disabilities and their families.
