Advocacy > Governmental Affairs Governmental AffairsThe lives of individuals with disabilities have significantly improved over the last fifty years. However, more work needs to be done. Ongoing communication is maintained with county, state and federal legislators regarding current issues and pending legislation affecting people with disabilities. This includes monitoring proposed legislation, analyzing its potential impact, and sharing information with people who have disabilities and their family members.
The Arc of Greater Pittsburgh encourages concerned citizens to get involved with the legislative process whether it is sending an email, making a phone call, signing a petition, attending a rally, or encouraging others to let their voices be heard. Together we can make a difference. To demonstrate the impact of grass roots advocacy, see ACHIEVA’s History of Accomplishments by clicking here.
Representatives from the Arc of Greater Pittsburgh recently traveled to Washington D.C. for the 2008 Disability Policy Seminar. After the two-day conference, participants met with their state Congressional leaders to discuss disabilities policy issues. Click here for photos.
