Out-of-Home Respite

Out-of-home respite provides an opportunity for individuals with disabilities to be outside their home and into the community. Respite is provided in one of ACHIEVA’s respite homes or in the home of a provider. This type of respite may be particularly attractive for adolescents who are preparing to leave the family home for a more independent living arrangement. It gives them an opportunity to experience new surroundings and different situations. Families are able to enjoy a break in their own home, or to travel away from home without the constraints of constant care. This is often used to devote more attention to siblings or to attend to personal care.

For use of ACHIEVA’s Respite Center, contact Rose Scheyer at rscheyer@achieva.info or by calling at 412-995-5000 ext 510 or, for other Out-of Home support, contact Mary Haider at 412-995-5000 ext. 491 or Rochelle Tyler at ext. 476 or via email at mhaider@achieva.info or rtyler@achieva.info or more information.

ACHIEVA’s Mall DAYZ program is available to help families who work when school is not in session and children are home. Activities are provided in the community to allow the students to enjoy their day off and to experience inclusive community activities. For more on Mall DAYZ, contact Rose Scheyer at rscheyer@achieva.info or by calling at 412-995-5000 ext. 510.
