PROTECTIVE SERVICES FOR THE ELDERLY
Since 1990, The Arc of Beaver County (now known as The Arc of Greater Pittsburgh Serving Allegheny and Beaver Counties) has provided Protective Services for people who are elderly in Beaver County. Complaints and allegations of physical, sexual, and financial abuse or neglect of care for individuals ages 60 or older are investigated through this program.
The Older Adult Protective Services Act assists older Pennsylvanians who lack the ability to protect themselves and are at imminent risk. The Act is victim-oriented to assure services necessary to protect the health, safety and welfare of older adults. Protective services are those activities, resources, and supports provided to older adults under this Act to detect, prevent, reduce, or eliminate abuse, neglect, exploitation, and abandonment. The individual’s personal rights and self-determination are respected and the least restrictive solutions possible are implemented. The assistance is available to adults (60 years and older) in the community as well as those in licensed personal care and nursing care facilities.
