What is a Community-Based Assessment?

A Community-Based Assessment (CBA) is an opportunity for an organization to invite a person who is exploring career options to come to their place of business to “try on” an existing job or perform a combination of work-related tasks. By allowing Community-Based Assessments at your place of business, you are giving ACHIEVA community employment specialists the opportunity to get to know how your organization operates and develop a relationship with you to learn about your needs. As we learn about your organization’s needs, we may be able to offer other services at no cost. Through the process of conducting a Community Based Assessment, you have an opportunity to gain a greater understanding about your organization from a unique perspective. Plus, there’s the added bonus of giving someone in your community the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the working world.

How Does It Work?

To get started, an ACHIEVA community employment specialist sets up an appointment to tour your workplace to learn about what you do and how you do it and to see what positions and tasks might make sense for assessment. You and the community employment specialist will discuss the types of tasks that will be assessed, the length and scheduling of the assessment and any other issues that are important to maximize the success of the assessment for your organization and for the individual. The community employment specialist stays with the individual during the entire assessment.

CBA’s are designed to be individual experiences, but we would also be open to partnering together to design a group tour of your business as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

 

What is my liability if I participate?

There is no increased risk of liability in allowing CBA’s on your premises.  The Employment Specialist and the individual are covered under ACHIEVA’s liability policy, and you can be provided with a copy of ACHIEVA’s liability insurance certificate.

 

Is there any cost to me?

No.  There are no fees and the individual participating in the assessment receives no compensation for the time working at the enterprise since this is considered to be training and not employment. The only cost is the amount of time it takes to work out the arrangements of the CBA.  The Employment Specialist will take care of the rest.

 

Will doing a CBA disrupt my normal business or customers?

We do everything possible to eliminate and minimize any possible negative impact upon your normal business operations during the course of the CBA.  ACHIEVA Community Employment Specialists have Act 33/34 clearances and have completed FBI background checks as well.  If the individual needs clearances or other documentation, we will provide copies before doing the assessment on your premises.

 

Am I under any obligation to hire an individual who comes out to do a CBA?

There is no expectation, obligation, or requirement to hire an individual who does a CBA at your place of business.
