Technology Update

The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) is a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) program that provides funds and discounts for families and households struggling to afford internet service. If the household income is below 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Line, you could be eligible. Click here to learn about household eligibility.

If eligible, households may receive assistance of up to $30 a month in discounts for broadband service or a one-time discount of up to $100 for a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet purchased through a participating provider. To learn more about the program, click here.

The Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development is hosting a webinar to provide an overview of the ACP for interested stakeholders. The webinar will cover more information on the ACP, who is eligible, how to apply, ACP outreach grant opportunities, and a Q&A session.

2023 Deaf and Hard of Hearing Summer Academy

Applications are now being accepted for the PA Office of Vocational Rehabilitation’s 2023 Summer Academy for High School Students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing. The 2023 Deaf and Hard of Hearing Summer Academy is an in-person, overnight program held at Penn State University-Main Campus in State College, PA. This program is created in partnership with L&I's Office for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ODHH), the Department of Education’s Bureau of Special Education, and Pennsylvania Teaching Technical Assistance Network (PaTTAN). The mission of the Summer Academy for High School Students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing is to provide a supportive environment to assist high school students who are deaf or hard of hearing with learning all about the skills necessary to transition from high school to post-secondary educational options successfully.

The program runs for ten days from Sunday, July 16, 2023 - Wednesday, July 26, 2023, and will cover self-advocacy skills in college, trade school, and the workplace; social and emotional skills, career planning, college support services, and communication access options. In addition, this summer program is fully accessible, with sign language interpreters and CART available for all classes and many extracurricular activities. Additional or different individual accommodations will be considered based on your answers in the application below. Also, students will stay in a dormitory room at Penn State with a roommate of the same gender and age range.
