VaultArt Artist one of first named for Pittsburgh civic space Arts Landing

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust on Wednesday announced the first eight public art projects to be displayed at Downtown’s Arts Landing.
The temporary projects, mostly sculptures, will be designed by ten artists with local ties, including names like Thaddeus Mosley, Mikael Owunna and Marques Redd, and John Peña. Some of the works will specifically draw on local culture and environment. Some are new and some pre-existing.
All the works will be on display once the park-like site, future permanent home of the Three Rivers Arts Festival, opens in April.
Pittsburgh-based Lenka Clayton and Phillip Andrew Lewis will create “For the Birds,” a series of tall steel sculptures fashioned as perches, swings and platforms for birds. In collaboration with VaultArt Studio, a project of Achieva which supports artists with disabilities, Darian Johnson will contribute a series of sculptures inspired by local fauna.
