Transformational gift advances $15 million comprehensive campaign to expand disability services across western Pennsylvania
The PNC Foundation has awarded a $2 million grant to Achieva in support of the organization’s
Beyond Boundaries comprehensive campaign, marking one of the largest corporate foundation gifts in Achieva’s history. This transformational investment will directly fund expanded services and innovative programs for people with disabilities throughout the region.
The grant represents PNC Foundation’s continued commitment to supporting organizations that strengthen communities and create opportunities for all residents to thrive. The Beyond Boundaries campaign, chaired by William S. Demchak, chairman and CEO of The PNC Financial Services Group, aims to expand Achieva’s capacity to serve more people with disabilities while enhancing existing programs and developing new pathways to independence and community inclusion.
“The PNC Foundation’s investment in Achieva’s Beyond Boundaries campaign reflects our shared belief that every person deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential,” said Sally McCrady, chair and president, PNC Foundation. “Achieva's innovative approach to disability services and track record of transforming lives aligns perfectly with the PNC Foundation’s mission to strengthen and enrich the lives of our neighbors in the communities where we live and work."
The $2 million grant will fund critical components of the Beyond Boundaries campaign, including:
? Facility expansion and accessibility improvements to serve additional individuals and families
? Technology upgrades that enhance service delivery and participant outcomes
? Program innovation initiatives that develop new models of support and community integration
? Workforce development programs that expand employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities
? Community outreach expansion to reach underserved populations across the region
“This remarkable partnership with the PNC Foundation accelerates our ability to break down barriers and create new possibilities for the individuals and families we serve,” said Steve Suroviec, CEO of Achieva. “The PNC Foundation’s investment goes beyond funding; it represents a vote of confidence in our vision for a more inclusive community where people with disabilities have every opportunity to live, work and participate fully.”
The grant support, coupled with Demchak’s leadership of the campaign, demonstrates PNC’s comprehensive commitment to Achieva’s mission at both the institutional and leadership levels.
Separately, Demchak has given a personal $1 million gift to the campaign. His brother received Achieva services, giving Demchak firsthand knowledge of the organization’s impact.
Founded in 1951, Achieva currently serves more than 20,000 individuals with disabilities and their families annually through residential services, employment support, family support and individual advocacy assistance and community integration initiatives. The Beyond Boundaries campaign represents the organization’s most ambitious expansion effort, designed to meet growing demand for services while pioneering new approaches to disability support.
“The PNC Foundation has been a cornerstone partner in our community for decades, and this gift exemplifies its commitment to creating opportunities for all Pittsburgh residents,” said Megan Gannon Anderson, chair of Achieva’s Board of Trustees. “This investment in Beyond Boundaries will have a lasting impact on thousands of lives and strengthen our entire community.”
The PNC Foundation's priority is to form partnerships with community-based nonprofit organizations to enhance educational opportunities, with an emphasis on early childhood education, and to promote the growth of communities through economic development initiatives.
With this significant grant, the Beyond Boundaries campaign continues to build momentum toward its $15 million goal. The campaign has already secured major commitments from community leaders, foundations, and individual donors who recognize the critical need for expanded disability services in the region.
