The Dr. J. Kaye Cupples Scholarship Fund

The Dr. J. Kaye Cupples Scholarship Fund was established in honor of Dr. J. Kaye Cupples, a longtime Pittsburgh Public School educator and administrator.  The scholarship honors his extraordinary commitment to the education and inclusion of students with disabilities in the school environment and everyday life.

Dr. J. Kaye Cupples Scholarship Process and Application

Your application for the J. Kaye Cupples Scholarship (and all PPS Scholarships) must be completed by Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

Online Application

Once you click on the Online Application button, scroll down to the PPS 2025–2026 Scholarship Application button and click on it. Read all of the instructions carefully, scroll to the bottom of the page, and click on the blue arrow button to begin your application.

The application must be submitted with all required additional documents, which include:
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • A 500 word essay
  • Your high school transcripts 
    • Alert your high school counselor to email your high school transcript to: ppsscholarship@pghschools.org

The purpose of the J. Kaye Cupples Scholarship is to provide funding to young adults with disabilities who plan to attend a college, university or trade school. The Scholarship is established in the name of Dr. J. Kaye Cupples, a long-time Pittsburgh Public Schools educator and administrator as an honor to his extraordinary commitment to the inclusion of students with disabilities in schools and everyday life. The Scholarship is housed and under the direction of The Arc of Greater Pittsburgh/Achieva. Applications will be considered from students who live in the city of Pittsburgh, attend or attended Pittsburgh Public Schools (or Approved Private School as a Pittsburgh Public School student); have an Individual Education Plan (IEP), and is attending (or plans to attend) a post-secondary education program at a college, university or trade school. Two (2), $2000.00 (two thousand dollar) scholarships will be awarded for the 2025- 2026 school year.
 

Online Application

Family members of Steering Committee members and Selection Committee members will not be eligible to apply for a scholarship, nor will family members of the Trustees and officers of AGP or other organizations within the Achieva Family of Organizations.

Number and Amount of Scholarships:
On an annual basis, the number of scholarships and dollar amount of scholarships to be awarded will be based on the amount of money available in the Fund. Scholarships may only be used for tuition and fees and/or course-related expenses such as books, supplies, and equipment at accredited post-secondary education institutions.
