Save the date! Join ACHIEVA on Saturday, May 9 for the 2020 Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community.
Every cent you donate or raise will help ACHIEVA provide life-long supports for people with disabilities in their community.
Highmark Inc. and community members will once again come together across Pennsylvania and Delaware to raise money for over 260 local nonprofit health and human services organizations participating in the annual Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community. Online registration for the walk will open on Friday, January 31st at noon. This will be the first opportunity for participants to take a step towards supporting an organization of their choosing. The Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community, held annually throughout the region since 2003, has helped organizations collectively raise more than $15 million. Last year, nonprofits raised more than $1.4 million in Pittsburgh, Laurel Highlands, Erie, Harrisburg, Lehigh Valley, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and Wilmington, Delaware.
Highmark organizes and underwrites all costs associated with the walk, while walkers select the participating nonprofit organization they wish to support. The nonprofits then keep 100 percent of the funds raised by their walkers. "We are proud to see this walk continue to grow and support these outstanding organizations year after year," said Dan Onorato, executive vice president, Highmark Health. "The Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community continues to provide local nonprofits with a unique fundraising opportunity to build capacity for their mission, expand resources, and extend their work in the communities we serve."
A 5K (3.1 mile) route and a one-mile route (both are accessible for people with disabilities) are available, and pets on leashes are welcome. In addition to the walk, there will be entertainment, refreshments and prizes. Walkers can register and donate at the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community website, where they can select their walk location and the participating nonprofit of their choice.
Onsite registration and check in for all walks begins at 7:45 a.m. The walks commence at 9:00 a.m., with a 5k and 1k route available.
