As a chapter of The Arc, representatives from Achieva attended The Arc’s National Convention in New Orleans this week. The annual convention offered opportunities to engage and gain knowledge with other professionals, advocates, people with disabilities and their families.

In attendance from Achieva was Board Chair Mary Lou Gegick; Tina Calabro, The Arc of Greater Pittsburgh Chair Elect; Steve Suroviec, Achieva President & CEO; Nancy Murray, President, The Arc of Greater Pittsburgh and Senior Vice President, Achieva; Vanessa Rastovic, Esq., Policy Manager, Disability Healthcare Initiative.

Nancy and Vanessa presented a breakout session titled, “The Medically Underserved Population Designation as a Health Justice Tool” which described the Medically Underserved Population designation and how it would promote health equity and improve health outcomes for people with disabilities.

Spanning from November 5 - 8, a full schedule of motivational topics included employment, education, advocacy, housing, criminal justice, and more.
