For families navigating intellectual and developmental disabilities, finding the right support can feel overwhelming. The Arc of Erie County Pennsylvania is working to change that — serving as both an advocate and a community hub for people with disabilities and those who care for them.

Part of a nationwide network, the local organization provides guidance on everything from early intervention and special education to employment, housing, health care, and government benefits such as Medicaid, Social Security, and SNAP. Just as important, it offers hands-on advocacy when families encounter barriers in schools or service systems.

“I was having a lot of issues with my son’s education,” said parent Melissa Delavern. “Within a week, everything was fixed… he is going to be able to go to school with more confidence and be able to thrive.”

Under the leadership of Executive Director Eric McLauglin, The Arc of Erie County Pennsylvania has expanded both its visibility and its impact throughout Erie County. Beyond individual assistance, The Arc is strengthening its regional presence through parent advocacy meetings, educational webinars, collaborations with local organizations, and direct engagement with policymakers — including discussions with U.S. Representative Mike Kelly about special education challenges, and an interview on Erie News Now. 

By combining personal support with broader advocacy, The Arc of Erie County Pennsylvania continues to grow as a vital resource — and a leading voice — for disability services in the Erie community.
