Recognizing Excellence in Our Community

Recognizing Excellence in Our Community
By Steve Suroviec, President and CEO

Picture of Steve Suroviec, President & CEOEvery year, Achieva holds its “Awards of Excellence” event to recognize citizens and organizations that are extraordinary, or have done or achieved extraordinary things, when it comes to helping people with disabilities lead lives of personal significance. On December 13th at 6 p.m., Achieva’s annual awards event will be streamed live – the second year in a row we’ve chosen to hold the event virtually rather than come together in person. Our past in-person awards events have been wonderful, giving supporters of Achieva the chance to meet award winners and their families, and giving everyone the opportunity to hear the recipients’ stories and why Achieva’s award-selection committee (made up of people with disabilities, family members, and community partners) decided they were worthy of being honored. But even though we’re not getting together in person this year, you can still honor the awardees and hear their stories by tuning in online at 6 p.m. on December 13th. Some of the Pittsburgh region’s most inspirational people will be highlighted, whether it’s for their advocacy, philanthropy, individual accomplishment, or their company’s commitment to people with disabilities.

WTAE's Elena LaQuatra, Emcee for the 2021 AOE EventWTAE’s Elena LaQuatra will be emceeing the event, and we believe it will be one of the best hours you can spend on a cold wintery evening. I want to thank our event sponsors (AmCom, Paycom, Giant Eagle, PDC Pharmacy, HomeLight, and Beacon Health Options) for supporting the awards ceremony. We hope and expect to return to an in-person event in 2022, but until then please join us virtually on the 13th!
